Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) in London, was raised by her mother, her grandmother and godparents. Her father abandoned her family. In her early years, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to the word association. Ford became fascinated by acting during her teens, she joined the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time but Ford realized it wasn't the ideal location for her. Ford returned for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, on the fourth time she applied, she was finally accepted. One of her classmates were Shaun Dingwall, who would play a part in the role of Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was not able to finish her studies in 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her first television appearance on the show Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in the year 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. She also worked regularly in theatres, before eventually being a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedy, which were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
